What People Are Saying

Last fall I was preparing for a tour in Australia. My girlfriend and I were going to travel on our bicycles and sleep in a tent for the whole 6 weeks: Alice Springs, the Great Ocean Road, part of the west coast. The last quality tent I bought was 20 years old and a bit heavy so it was time for a change. Reading about the Habitat on the net convinced me. I was agreeably surprised to find a canadian importer for this tent, even more so after exchanging a few emails with the folks at Entry Creek. Great information, assistance and customer service: it is nice to feel you are dealing with real people (I like the story on how Entry Creek was born). The Habitat was soon at my doorstep. I like the tent very much : it is light, sets up in seconds, sleeps nicely with lots of air when you need it while remaining surprisingly warm on cool nights. I also ordered a tarp that saved the day when we hit a big rainstorm. Oh yes, and the orange color is fabulous : matches one of my riding shirts as well as Ayers Rock at sunset...

My husband and I used the Luxe Hurricane on an 1100 km 3 week self-support cycle tour through the backroads, trails and highways of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast (British Columbia, Canada) this summer 2009. It was a perfect size and weight: light to pack in our bob-trailers and super roomy for two people and all their gear INSIDE the tent when rummaging around and repacking. Luckily we got very few rainy days but when we did (hanging out in the tent during an intense downpour on Hornby Island), it was comfortable, warm & dry with enough space to be occupied without getting on each-other’s nerves ... and there was even room to do an in-tent yoga practice.

The Hurricane is also quick and easy to set up and tear down, with pole slot colour coding ... not USUALLY required but super-helpful when a fatigued body and brain are not functioning as they should (not that this ever happens to us, LOL). Durability-wise, it also stood up well to the continuous daily set-up and tear down routine demanded by an on-the-move tour.

Since our longer cycle tour, we've used the same tent on other shorter cycle tours (the Silver Triangle in Central B.C.). It also kept us dry and warm in the cooler high altitude temperatures we encountered taking a group of College students on a four-day late-summer Outdoor Education trip, hiking and paddling in backcountry Alberta.

We're looking forward to it's versatility for seeing us through the cooler Alberta "Indian Summer" (Fall) weather and will probably test it out for a winter camping trip or two here in 'cold cold Canada'.

I had the opportunity to use a MSR Hubba Hubba HP for a couple of weeks. A new one was a little pricey so I decided to shop around and stumbled upon Luxe tents. When I saw the Habitat, the model that is very similar to the MSR Hubba Hubba I was really impressed with the quality, even the tent pegs are designed well and I think the pole setup is better than MSR's. The only big difference between the tents is the price, and they even threw in the footprint. I'm really happy with my choice, its cool to be one of the first people in Canada to own a Luxe tent.
